Description

As a Senior PHP / Laravel Developer (m/f/d), you will play a key role in maintaining, enhancing, and evolving a mission-critical healthcare platform. This is a hands-on, operational role focused on the day-to-day stability, security, and scalability of an existing Laravel-based system.


You will work independently within a distributed, English-speaking development team, contributing high-quality backend solutions while ensuring compliance with healthcare-specific requirements around data protection, security, and reliability.

Requirements


Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong professional experience in backend development using PHP

  • Proven experience building and maintaining production systems with Laravel

  • Deep understanding of: RESTful APIs; Authentication and authorization mechanisms; Routing concepts

  • Solid experience with Eloquent ORM and backend data access patterns

  • Strong SQL knowledge and database design experience (MySQL and/or PostgreSQL)

  • Experience with unit testing frameworks (e.g. PHPUnit, Pest)

  • Confident use of Git-based version control, including: Feature branching; Pull requests; CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience working with queue systems (e.g. Redis, RabbitMQ)

  • Comfortable working in containerized development environments (Docker or equivalent)

Soft Skills

  • Highly independent and self-driven, able to plan and execute work without close supervision

  • Strong English communication skills (written and spoken)

  • Collaborative mindset with openness to feedback and cross-team cooperation

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities

  • Strong commitment to clean code, documentation, and engineering best practices

  • Comfortable operating in environments with evolving requirements and ambiguity

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, telecommunications or regulated industries

  • Familiarity with security best practices (e.g. data encryption, access control, audit trails)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, optimize, and extend an existing Laravel-based backend platform, ensuring high availability and performance

  • Design and implement new backend features, APIs, and service integrations

  • Ensure data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance within a healthcare environment

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested PHP/Laravel code following best practices

  • Contribute to technical design and architecture discussions where appropriate

  • Develop and maintain unit and integration tests to prevent regressions

  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues in a timely and structured manner

  • Collaborate effectively with other engineers in an agile, fully remote setup

  • Document technical decisions, API contracts, and shared components

  • Support continuous improvement of code quality, performance, and system stability
